planning a dynamic site

I am trying to find a good explanation on the best way of planning a site with multiple selections and sub selections,

I am as you may guess very new and just hoping to find a good tutorial.

I am guessing that i will have to make a table for each pages and then links will be listed in some field in there and then those links lead to a new table with links in there, etc

Jake I too am new to php but can offer you this. FastTemplate is the way to go. It allows for you to control functionality of your page ala php while allowing someone else to plan the look (graphically-html). From what I gather from my investigating, dynamically generating webpages from this FastTemplate idea is a snap. Once you get it going??
