HTML PHP problem !?

high all,

i have to embed php code in a .html document,
but my hosting provider only supports files with .php3 extension as scripts.

a .htaccess file with
AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .html
results in a "download" of .html files.

whats wrong? the mime type?

Why do you have to embed php in html?
Why don't you just write a php script/page?

because the client does not want to
see .php3 files all over his site,
and what about search engines,
i think some of them dislike .php3s ...

That's the problem with clients, they don't understand what they are asking for. Does the client want an interactive site or a pretty file tree? (Not really an answer to your problem, I know).

Search engines in general have issues with dynamically generated content. I believe there is a good older article here on PHPBuilder that describes how to build a "search engine friendly" php site.

Build a frameset with one frame and just don't TELL them they've got .php3 files all over the site. HeHe...

Humm.. that's like saying "I want a website, but I don't want those html files"

But anyway, Search engines deal with the data that they receive from the webserver. They don't see the PHP, only the output.

I've seen perfectly working php-pages in the results of search engines...

Does your webserver allow.php files to be in the html document root, or do you have to call php scripts using the cgi-bin method?

i can put them whereever i want ;-)

php runs as an apache module ...

Arg.. I feel silly for not thinking of this earlier...

In PHP4 for example., the mime type is nolonger
application/x-httpd-php3
it is
application/x-httpd-php

thus you are using an non-existant type, thuis is becomes a download....
