Sending Mails from intranet

Hi..people,

I m using a apache-php3-mysql-linux config.

Well trouble started when I wrote some code which was supposed to send mail to an address.The syntax was right.
Anyway..nothing happened as I was running this whole program on a local test server.. meant for an intranet.But as soon as i put the same code on to our webserver the thing started working.

Now I want to send mails from the local server to an id any where in the world. is ther some setting in the apache config files
or something.

Somebody help me!pleeze!

Sending email on linux using PHP requires that you have a working mailer deamon on that server.
Can you send mail from the linux machine manually? If not, get that working first, and php will start working too. (as it did on your webserver)
