get e-mail regular expression

can anyone help with a ereg_replace to strip all html or any other characters from a mailto.

example: <a href="mailto:[e-mail]">

i need to get just the [e-mail]

i try to avoid regex's at all costs 🙂

try this

$email = "<a href=\"mailto:[e-mail]\">"
$colon_position = strpos($email, ":")
$last_quote_position = strrpos($email, "\"")
$new_email = substr($email, $colon_position+1, ($last_quote_position - $colon_position))

that should work i didnt test it though.
if anyone would care to demonstrate with an expression i would be interested.

Why do you avoid RegEx's???

They're incredibly useful; if... trying at times. :-) They're more powerful then running several statements over, and will do the job in one command versus four...?
