Hi. I thought i've read somewhere that in order to use php as shell script, one
must compile php as cgi binary rather than apache module. I can't remember
exactly where i saw this, so could anyone help confirm this form me. Also,
how can I find out if php was compiled as module or binary?

Ahem... you mean ofcourse that the PHP should be compiled as a CGI binary.

The apache module only works when it's called by apache, which is not very possible via the cron.

An ugly way to use php via vrontab without having to rebuild php as a cgi executable would be to use a script that calls wget so the page would be loaded.

But it would be awfull 🙂

Please note that you can have both the cgi and apache module at the same time. Just build 'em both.

What would be the name of php cgi binary, and where would it usually be located? And if php was only compiled as module version, I suppose it has to be re-compiled to include the cgi version? Thanks.

The name would be... hm... what sounds original yet catchy... PHP! :-)
And it ends up in the /usr/local/bin/

WHen you compile PHP you have to decide if you want the apache module version OR the CGI version.
One compilation makes one version.
However, you can run both compilations after eachother and get both versions that way.
