to build off this and my earlier post (which as it seems, has very little to do with the question on hand) :
One-step Compressed dump :
mysqldump -uUsername -p dbname | gzip > dbname.gz
Decompress / restore:
gunzip < dbname.gz | mysql -uUsername -p dbname
Again, this is unrelated but jic someone searches these mailing lists in the future, this will give a little more meaning to my earlier post as it relates to quickly compressing dbs.
