PHP - a bit SLOW?

I feel very much that PHP is a bit slow when it comes to a low-bandwidth area like India.
Even here when I try to get these pages almost 3 times Server timed out

Most likely the same page would timeout if it was a php script or not, the distance a page has to go to reach a client has nothing to do with the execution time of a php script, all it does is execute and send the data to the server which sends it on to the client.

In otherwords, as far as your broswer is concerned, you are just receiving static HTML pages (with, perhaps, some imbedded scripting - which is processed on the browser side).

Packet loss at an overloaded router is a more likely cause of your timeouts.
