mail function

Hello everybody
I have a problem with mail function.
1.I use hosting service on aitcom.net
2.In httpd.conf there is a line:
"php3_sendmail_path /bin/sendmail"
3.This /bin/sendmail EXISTS
4.I use "mail("[e-mail]","subj","message");"
5.E-mail "[e-mail]" EXISTS
6.mail() returns as a result - "1" and then does nothing - there is no mail sending.

WHY??? 🙁

Try using variables to make it clean and flexible, and add a "From..." and an X-Priority like this:

$email = "[e-mail]";
$subject = "test mail";
$message = "test message";
$from = "From: thesender <[e-mail]>\nX-Priority: 2";

mail ($email,$subject,$message,$from);

If you are not using form input to generate values for your mail() function, you'll have to hard code them. But I think your problem is still that there is no "From..." You need all the arguments to mail().

NOTE: the last argument is the custom headers option - which (as the PHP manual states) is optional. Sergey - your original mail should send just fine.

I have the same situation as Sergey. However, one exceptional case is that when my "To" address is same as my pgm's original domain. i.e. My pgm is located at myname.com and the "To" parameter is "[e-mail]". Its work!! However, when the "To" parameter is other address, the mail() return 1 but no mail received.

What is your sendmail_path in the PHP Core Directive?

Run phpinfo() to see this.

Under phpinfo() I found the following:

PHP Core
sendmail_from: no value
sendmail_path: /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

Standard
Path to sendmail: /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

I believe I got back to sergey on this one via private email.

Are you on Win32? if so, you need to create a POP3 account, and you need to edit your php.ini file.

Make the sendmail_from... [e-mail]

Also make sure SMTP points to the address of your mail server, something like... mail.domain.com

If you are on un*x apache, it sounds like it may be something with sendmail, and that is outside my area of expertise, but you may want to test the sendmail_path without the -t and -i flags, which I believe are optional.

Thanx! My OS is Linux and my hosting company seems dont know much of this either. They just told me that they have installed the sendmail program. I am not sure the file / setting that you have mentioned can be modify by me. As you know that I am not the only one to use the server (I am using the virtual server hosting - not dedicated hosting).
