I have to tell you that this is the most insane thing I have ever heard... PHP is meant to produce output and not work being closed. And still, wouldn't you like to know the speed, success information, which emails returned unfound, etc?
If you want an unattended client, why don't you just PURCHASE or CODE a mass-emailer?

Or go for a list-server?
