Performance between IE5 and Netscape on Win2k

I'm developing on an Win2k with mySQL and Apache.

My question: Why are is the response much much (=very much) faster if I acces my pages with IE. The results are there by pressing the submit-button.
Browsing the same pages with Netscape the rsults need about 7 seconds or more.
Why?

I am sure it's not a matter of hardware - are there some systemcalls from IE that Netscape does not?

I guess thats one of the many reasons why IE is up at around 80% usage and Netscape is dying a slow and painful death?

There you go...perhaps you should wonder (if M$ hasn\'t disabled that part of your brain, yet) why exactly M$ programs work so well on M$ operating systems, while other products do not. Perhaps M$ tells their developers (whom they love, right?) different things than they tell the in-house folk? Who develops products for Windoze that M$ absolutely needs? Let\'s see, they have the OS, the Office suite, the programming tools, the internet chat apps...ah, looks like no-one does. Gee, I wonder why Borland stuff doesn\'t run so well, or ICQ, or Lotus Smart Suite...hmm. Must be why Office is at (insert poll of the month percentage) usage, or why Clinton had a 74% approval rating.

I'm guessing the page in question includes tables, or an image without width and height specified that is on a remote server (that is probably not responding)?

If so, netscape 4 will be slower because it does not support page reflow (i.e. it cannot change the display of a page to accommodate for the size of an image changing). Netscape has to fetch the image and/or entire table before it can show the page.

No it's all on my development computer (PHP, Apache, MySQL)
The images on this page are all with width and hight.

but the tables do not have this informations.

It takes about 7 seconds to login!!!! thats much to long.

No, you have misunderstood what I have said. Netscape will show N-O-T-H-I-N-G after a <table> tag until it reaches the corrosponding </table> tag.

You should post a URL of the problem page so people can look at it (even if it is just an HTML results page, not the script itself).

Ian - agreed.

It might also be faster under high load to do a void flush(void);

That'd be good to help push the tables out while waiting for other segents to process.

Also, load the accelerator.

I experienced a similiar issue...
When using the post method Netscape 4.7 on Win2kPro will not actually execute the submit until you resize, or unfocus the window...seriously. I don't know what one has to do with the other...on a NT 4.0 machine Netscape works fine in that respect. I've experienced it with both PHP and ASP...IIS and Apache...not that I thought it was server side anyway. Haven't tested 6.0 yet.
