How do i create a search engine on my site to search multiple fields?

If you want to index your site and have AI heuristics and all that jazz in a search engine, then don't write your own unless you have a lot of spare time.

Have a look at swishe (not sure of the URL for them) or htdig (www.htdig.org). They index the site at night and provide a nice easy install. I use htdig at work and am VERY impressed with it's speed and accuracy of searches.

Indeed. Especially fuzzy logic and "sounds-like" queries... =)
