PHP editor tool

Dear everyone,

I am new to PHP and I wonder if there´s any kind of PHP editor/visual tool for Linux. It is OK if there is the same thing for Win but I do prefer a tool under Linux.

I am quite curious if a tool with HTML/PHP/Javascript exists.

Of course, I can easily write it with a simple text editor but a visual tool would boost productivity.

I recommend macromedia dreamweaver for general web design, and it comes with allaires homesite 4.5 which is what I write most of my code in orginally before switching to vim/linux. homesite has some great colour labeling of functions, variables, etc. that makes things easier.

if you search www.freshmeat.net there are some GUI PHP utilities for Linux (GNOME xwindows mostly) as well, haven't used them though since I spend most of my time at the command line or KDE.

There's a pretty spiffy VisualStudio-like PHP application available at www.soysal.com/PHPEd/index.html (include the index.html, otherwise you'll get a blank page). It's a beta, and I've had it crash every once in a while (usually when I load a really big file full of functions), but it's pretty smart.

It even features many of the cool stuff that makes the MS VisualStudio apps easy to use (function completion, online help via the PHP manual, etc).

Unfortunately, it hasn't had a new version release since like March :\

The best PHP editor i've found is EditPlus - it supports modules for various languages one of which is PHP but HTML and JavaScript are also available. Everything is color coded etc... etc... more info at http://www.editplus.com/

I use a free editor for Linux called nedit. It's available at http://www.nedit.org You'll have to download and install PHP patterns for syntax highlighting separately. Nedit is very easy to install and very easy to use.

Ug. You people disgust me. I write everything in Notepad and Edit.com. (Notepad doesn't have line numbers. =)

When you get proficient, you'll not need that fancy stuff. Like those people who need calculators to do basic math. Pfft!

you joking right! otherwise, what you said is complete nonsense. hell, you working in notepad is 'fancy stuff'. I do most of my coding in VI on a *nix machine, don't even have the luxury of a mouse or the fancy GUI. do EVERYTHING by key command. please get off your high horse.

I also use several GUI (homesite, dreamweaver, etc.) not because I am 'less proficient' but because it is more efficient, boosts productivity, and I like the pretty colours :-).
