Posting to PHP without opening it

Does anyone know,

Is it possible at all to post a value to a .PHP file (so that the .PHP file will add it to a database), without actually having that .PHP file download into the browser window?

It's just irritating that a static page has to reload everytime I send a value.

If you mean posted by submitting a form from an ordinary browser,
then no--but of course it's up to you how little data the PHP page
that receives the POST actually sends back.

OTOH, if you aren't limited to just a browser, you can certainly
connect to the server just by opening a socket to port 80 on
the machine, and send and receive http as invisibly as you
care to make it. There's even a column somwhere here about
doing this.

You can make the php script send a header(location:bla) to redirect back to the static page.
Then if you submit the static page, the php inserts the data, and you are sent back to the static page without seeing the php page at all.
