Would this be hard?

Hi folks,

I've programmed some simple PHP-enabled pages before, but now I've been asked to develope a scheduling calendar for a website that keeps track of appointments in real-time. So if some schedules an appointment from say 1pm til 3pm through a webpage form, then the calendar will instantly update so others can see that 1pm til 3pm is already filled.

My question is, how difficult would this be, and is there any sample code out there that I could take ideas from?
