questions about imagegif() function

At the moment most images are in either gif or jpg, everyone uses them.. The gd seem to have removed gd from all versions higher that 1.6! is this correct? or is it just the 1.6 version? Well anyway this is most annoying and i was wondering what ppl hav done to get round this?

Also if anyone knows where i can find a good php host that supports image manipulation using either the gd lib or jpeg-6b lib it would be most helpful

To get the gif functions, you will need to download GD 1.3 and compile that into php. You can find version 1.3 here:

ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/source/libs/libgd-gif_1.3.orig.tar.gz

You will gain .GIF support, but loose .PNG support.. hope that helps!

Its because the creators of gif compression will not release there copywrite
