sending mail - help

hi,

i'm using a linux machine behind a proxy server which is a windows nt machine with wingate. i'm not able to send mails from the linux machine thru php using the sendmail program via the proxy server. the proxy server supports the smtp protocol. i'm able to sent mails thru any mail client using smtp, but not from php thru sendmail. may be i have to configure the sendmail?

Well, how is the current sendmail configured? I don't mean
within PHP (which just tells it what command line to use to
invoke sendmail) but rather where sendmail thinks it's
supposed to send to.

Did you setup the default gateway and the DNS Server specifications in your Linux box?

I am running Winproxy as my proxy server on NT for my local network's gateway to the internet. I had to setup all of my machines to use the gateway for email and internet to work properly.

You shouldn't have to do anything to sendmail. All of your setup can be done using Linuxconf in the Networking section.
