Please HELP!! Fatal error: Max. execution reached

Hi all,

I posted this question here already, but didn't seem to get much help at all. I am sure there must people who have had similar problems. I am fairly new to the whole PHP/MySQL/Apache business, so I would REALLY apreciate any help... 🙂

I run a web server off of my Win98 Pentium II machine and I am with @Home (Cable modem) provider. I ve been trying to develop a web site using MySQL/PHP/Apache so that is my actual set up. Now here is the problem:

When I log on to my web site from any computers that are a part of @Home, I get very decent response(speed wise) from my site. However whenever I log on to it from any other computer (not @Home, say AOL, or GlobalServe), I ALWAYS get a "Maximum Execution Time exceeded 30 seconds" error somewhere in my script. In other words my site is unusable for the rest of the world.

Can ANYONE help me as to what the possible problem may be? I am running MySQL for Windows, Apache 3.1.12, and PHP4 with ZEND optimizer. Increasing the Max. Execution time to more then 30 seconds does not solve the problem because the point is to speed up the whole process not to JUST get it to work.

Obviously there is something terribly wrong here. 🙂

In the future I am planning to move the whole site to a provider space with Bigger/Better equipment, but it doesn't make sense that cable modem should give me such a HUGE delay. Can it be the proxies at the @Home end?

PLEASE help!! Any CLUES???

It might be proxy/firewall problems.. i'm not sure... but try making a
<?php echo "Hello World!"; ?>
script and see if that passes through.. if not there is probably a firewall that is stopping incoming requests on port 80... Talk with the @home people and ask if they got a firewal and how to get past it..

But I can execute small scripts no problem. I do not get the Fatal Max Execution Time Exceeded error there. I do get one for anything that's a it bigger then a few lines of PHP, or anything that gets connected to my MySQL database. But, again, ONLY when it's outside of @Home. That is THE WEIRDEST thing.

And yes, @Home does have firewalls, and proxies at port 80. But I do know people running servers with not much problems, but with other configurations (not PHP, not MySQL, not Apache )...

Any other thoughts?

@home has got some pretty restrictive ideas about what you can do as a user. Are you sure they aren't doing something to block incoming http requests, or to truncate them to something very short?
