Writable files?

If I use:

touch(fileName.txt);

to create a file dynamically, hoe do I chmod it writable using PHP?

I presume that:

fopen(fileName, "w");

is not the same thing?

There is a PHP function

chmod (string filename, int mode)

Does the int mode need to be in quotation marks?

Tony, it is integer, not a string.

Hessian, I've got the same problem on UNIX system, it didn't allow me to chmod my files from my scripts.
To skip that, I've got to create some dir in ftp, chmod it to a+rw, and only after that to write data in it.
How it can be solved?

Just make a directory (outside of DOCUMENT_ROOT, unless the files you're creating are ordinary html files you want the server to hand out to others, and use chown to change the owner and group owner to 'nobody'. Now your scripts (running as 'nobody') can create files to their hearts' content.
