help!! php for workflow automation...

hi all..
actually i'm asked to find a suitable project on 'automation of a workflow using PHP'.. can anybody come to help?? please suggest me a few workflows which can automated by using PHP..and i wud appreciate if u guide me with more details.. and please bear in mind that i'm a beginner in the field of PHP..

What sort of a question is that? Could you be a bit more specific in what kind of workflow automation you are talking about? Workflow of documents? Workflow in a manufacturing plant? Workflow of processes in a company?

Whatever the nature of your "workflow" means, it typically will use a database as a backend an dmost likely be web-based (since you are posting messages in a PHP group in the first place!). If this is true, PHP can do it.

But you will have to "develop" it.

sir i think..u hav replied exactly what i wanted.. but i seek some more details.. in our case it's workflow of documents in a office.. the project is to automate various processes like 'leave sanctions','processing of expense reports','maintenance of contact lists & time sheets', etc.. and the presribed tool for the appln. developement is PHP..
i would like to hav ur guidance on how to go about it.. this is not to test ur patience,sir.. but to obtain ur valuable guidance..& we want u to be our guide(only if u hav no resource constraint)

ANyway, what you said sounds like a piece of cake. You need a database (something like MySQL from www.mysql.com or PostgreSQL from www.postgresql.org), a database designer who can plan how your data will be stored, and a web server + apache + PHP. All freely available.

The application you described is fairly easy to develop. Thats pretty much all I can help, given my resource constraints.

It is not easy to develop and it is expensive to buy.

Products I found so far:
Oracle9i has Workflower facility
Documentum - wwww.documentum.com (do not know if it is possible to use data from DB or it is only for documents)
Another product http://www.wordware.com.au/
- you will hate it if you are Unix person (but may be you will steal an idea

Flower - www.pallas-athena.com

Free product:
www.arsdigita.com - you will need to learn tcl/tk or pay them for integration

I am looking for such product as well but it looks like there is no Open source solution here. Probably will decide to develop it with friends.

I have similar problem! but my situation is like this:

I have to fill-up a form (thru html page) and i will sen that request to the appropriate approver then if that person is out of the office it will send to the other person, my problem is how will the program know that the person im sending the message (thru email is not available or out) how will it forward to the next person in charge.

I am afraid that you will need a workflow product. It will keep your business procedures and track their execution. I can not imagine such a product without DB.
After form will be submitted data will be inserted into DB table. Than workflow engine according process description will send a notification to next user or programm etc etc.

Getting into the same kind of problem, I have to design and develop workflow tool ...
If some of you have begun so far maybe we could share and work together ...

My main work is to get some predefined processes which are located in am MS Access Database and fetch them into a workflow tool ... I don't need to develop the process description module but the interface and the workflow tool ...

Anybody could help ????
