Opening secured pages in PHP

HI, I need to open a file on a remote system using HTTPS in my PHP script. Example:
$fp = fopen("https://somehwere/something.php","r");
But it does not work.
Can You help me please ?

To get that to work, I believe fopen() would have to be changed to handle https.

This can be done with PHP4 using the curl extension.

I believe that there is also a new SSL extension coming in 4.0.4, but I may be mistaken.

PS you can also get a command line version of CURl that works with PHP3 - I have used it before with much success.
