cookie expire time in php

Hi, im using php to set cookies, and it would seem that when setting an expire time/date (im using date("l, d-M-y H:i:s T" , time()+600)) it takes the time from the server, and not the time on the users machine to set the cookie.

For any machine that doesnt have a similar time to the server, ie other timezones, this method wouldnt work unless the cookie was set for many days into the future.

Are there any work arounds for this, or is it considered bad practice to set cookies for such a short length of time.

Do it with Javascript on the client machine instead of on the server. Here's a little PHP function that will do just that:
