flock() and include()

Anyone know if you can get include() to obey an flock() on a file or if I'll have to wrap the include function in an if(flock) type statement?

My guess is you need the wrapper, but why should you need this in the first place? Any number of instances can read an include file with no ill effects.

I'm not worried about multiple people reading, the application will also from time to time end up rewriting the file which during this process I flock it to make sure it won't be read while being rewritten. I've already written a small wrapper for include that checks for the existence of the lock before including.
