How to config php to suport jpeg?

i have to use the functions:
ImageCreateFromJPEG(),ImageJPEG(),
but get some errors£º
Warning: ImageCreateFromJpeg: No JPEG support in this PHP build
Warning: ImageJpeg: No JPG support in this PHP build

i've try many ways to config and rebuild my php system, but it still can't work.
(use redhat6.2 + mysql2.23.28 + php4.0.3pl1)

can anybody give a particular guide?

You need a PHP compiled with JPEG support. And you need a version of GD which has JPEG support.

Please note that GD (which PHP uses for image modifications) only supports working with 256 colors. This often makes it useless for JPEGs.
