time interval execute PHP script???

Hello all,
How could i execute (automatically) PHP script after a certain time interval. Someone tols me about the Corn but i dont know anything about that?? Any other way ???

What did they tell you about the Corn? Is it corn-on-the-cob, or the new bio-tech Corn??

Heheeh...It's Cron, not corn..and it's the only way that I know of to execute a PHP scripts every X minutes...or at the same time each day/week whatever. Under unix that is.

Do some searching around on the web because I can't explain it that well...

Theoretically you could set up a php page with a meta refresh tag for X minutes, then as long as you leave the browser window open it will keep re-executeing whenever the page reloads. (Not that this is a better way than useing the 'corn', just a different way.

Cron doesn't have much to do with PHP. Cron is a service on unix systems which lets you have specific commands executed at regular intervals.

Ask your system administrator about cron. Or go search the web.

Really: Explaining the details about cron takes some time - and that time would be wasted, because tons of documents have already been written about cron.

What is the Unix command to execute a PHP script? I assume "/path/to/php.exe" but then what are the parameters?

On my systems, it's just
php filename.php

I think that works if PHP is used as cgi. if it's a module in apache, you can't run it seperately. For my cron jobs I just call the page through lynx.

lynx www.sepodaticreations.com/my_page.php

If the page returns any information, it's emailed to me, at least on my server, i don't know if that's how it is for all of them.
