Difference between IE and Netscape brows

Dear all,

Internet Explorer and Netscape is the common browser for the internet.
However, when we build the webpage using dreamweaver, the overall
feature is OK for IE browser but abnormal for Netscape browser. Please
reply us why and how to make it consistent for both browser, thanks.

Currently, Internet Explorer's W3C standards are closer to that than of Netscape (which will change soon with version 6 of netscape).

Example:
In IE you can color <td>'s. In Netscape you can't.

It would be best if you didn't use a program such as dreamweaver, and did as much as possible by hand. Dreamweaver may throw in some funky code netscape -or- ie might not understand.

hello, simon, i think you just addressed one of the most universally baffling problems of our times!
Asking why they dont look the same in Ie and NS is like asking why Pepsi and Coke arent best buddies!!!
..anyways coming to the crux of the matter,
i usually align acc to IE and put the stuff in an Netscapelayer, and then position it acc to NN... actually he way you adjust depends on what problem you are facing.

I've found Netscape to be more strict, forcing you to write better code. In IE for example, you can have form elements without <form> tags. Not so in Netscape. Netscape is also very particular about closing tables and cells.

I've also found dreamweaver to be a very good WYSIWYG editor, if you're on windows. It does not put any extra code in, doesn't mess with my php at all, and allows me to create basic html faster than typing it by hand.

I have just started using PHP and am very happy, so far. Now I have hit a wall.
I use the folloowing code:

$url="http://www.vvww.net?url=cottages";
header("Location:$url");
?>

It works great in Netscape 6 and Internet Explorer. However in Netscape 4.7 the variable gets ignored/translated.
Can any one suggest a workaround to be able to redirect to a new page passing a variable with Netscape 4.7.
