php upload script

I am not really sure if this is the place to ask this but I have been looking all day for an answer and so I thought what the heck might as well try here 🙂
ok now my question is does anyone know where I can find a php upload script that does the following things.

allows upload (duh)
allows description of file field (not very important but would be nice)
limits filetypes
limits filesizes
limits number of uploads per day or
restricts the upload directory to a certain size to prevent flooding.

If there is not a script that does all of those things does anyone know of a script this will e-mail you the uploaded file instead of sending it to your server ?

There is a script which does most of what you want on this site.

you can make it limit filetypes easily by adding (if you wanted jpegs and gifs):

if ($form_data_type=="image/pjpeg" || $form_data_type=="image/gif" ){

below the
if ($submit){
line.

and an extra } at the bottom.

The only thing the script doesn't do is limit the uploads per day, but I'm sure that would not be to hard to achieve by adding a date field to the MySQL database and doing an initial select query by date, to find out how many files had been uploaded that day.

I am sorry but as the name implys I am a Total php Newbie and I would not know how to interface with a database if my life depended on it so if anyone else could offer a suggestion I would be most greatful.

I was thinking that I could take a already existing upload script from like hotscripts .com and modify it so that evertime a upload is made it increases the number in a flat text file until the max number has been reached. The max number would be in the php script itself and when the number has been reached it would print out a message that says something like "sorry the total uploads for today have been reached please try again later" I could manually reset the the text file so the process could start all over again.

Well this sounds good but as I have said I don't know anything about coding in php and so if anyone would be willing to help me with this project then once again I would be most greatful.

Also if anyone knows a way to limit a directory size to say like 5mb then that would basically do the same thing as I could just choose this directory to upload to and it would only allow the 5mb and no more. I was thinking a .htaccess file could do this but so far I have run into a brick wall on this one as well. So once again help would be great.

As long as you have already got PHP and MySQL installed on your server then it really isn't hard at all.
If you look at the tutorial all you'll have to do is copy and paste the code and follow the instructions.
It's as easy as Pi.

Thanks for the help bud but I think I will go a different route. I am just not the friendly with programming at all so I think I will just pay someone to build me a script. If anyone is willing to do the Job let me know but it will have to be done in the next 3 days and it cannot require a MySQL database.

i more or less have the script you're looking for.....i think....
simple .php / .php3 script which has a log in screen...through that you can log into the file section, you cannot make directorys... but you can upload any files (or block certain ones) and see what is uploaded, you can also delete files from that same directory (that the .php script is in)

i use this script for my host...they want me to use their FTP dailup account to access my FTP.. but with this script i can upload files from any where.. without using their dailup 🙂

only problem is... i got the script from a 'friend'.. and it has encrypted passwords... i don't know how to decrypt..and every time i remove the encrytion string, it does not work...
