client updates own site

I am creating a very simple site for a client
BUT he wants to update it himself without touching the html
i was told i can use php to do this please help

1. Separate the content from the presentation.

2. Store the content somewhere, ideally in a database, not so ideally in the filesystem.

3. Create forms and scripts to create, store, retrieve, modify the content.

4. Create scripts to present the content in your preferred look and feel.

Just wondering if you've devised a method for your client to update their own site?
