Repition of search results

hi all,

when we use a SELECT statement to search a particular field in database the result returns a lot of duplicate results, how can this be avoided , i have tried to used the GROUP BY statement but it doesnt help, can anybody give me some suggestions regarding this

Thanx patrick i did as u said but it givs the same result all the time, actually if there is a small blank character b4 the entry it takes it to be a different entry and shows different output

can u gimme any siggetions

That's because it is a different entry. The time to fix that is up front; if you want to ignore leading and trailing whitespace, clean up the data before storing it.
