Well, there isn't really such a thing as a "standard" report in the sense you're probably asking. However, assuming the output is going to be html, then tables are really the only choice for presenting tabular data (which is probably at the base of what you mean by "standard report".) Any good html reference should help with this, and in addition there's been a lot of discussion here about querying data and presenting the result in html tables, especially in the /databases section.
