Extra character at end of page

I have a dynamically created page that displays an extra character at the bottom of the page in the browser. If I view the source, the character isn't there and the page always validates. If I fiddle with the php script--completely inconsequential stuff like adding/removing blank lines--I get a different character at the bottom.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Dang! Forgot maybe the most important part:
This extra character only shows when you reload/refresh the page; NOT when arriving from another page.
