Good PHP Tutorial?

Hello...
I've been looking around and trying to find a good PHP tutorial with very little luck. Now, my definition of "good" might not fly with anyone else, so let me explain.

I like indepth information, I don't need anything terribly simple. I'm very comfortable with C++, HTML, Access, and I've been working with ASP (please don't beat me) for about 3 years now. I have the most recent version of PHP local on my Computer, and I just need a jumping off/in point.

I'd really rather not buy a $50 book if there's something free on the internet. If you have any suggestions please

Then go to the documentation and select the annotated manual. Many people have posted code and solutions to problems that is very helpful.

Since you've been a programmer for awhile you won't have any problem using/learning PHP.

You should also check the articles on this site they talk about PHP solutions to common issues and give good coding examples.

What about a good tutorial for the person who isn't quite as Sharp?

I'm looking to get started in PHP I know html but whant to get started with databases, could anyone help me?

I was definatly in the same boat. I only new HTML, had no idea what the heck MySQL was about. The thing that got me learning quick was this site, looking at code snippets and a a good book. The first thing that helped me learn about variables, arrays, expressions was just creating simple web forms, that would mail me the contents of the form and displaying them on the next page. Easiest thing to start with.

i was using core php programming for a long time for php3 and didn't understand a damn thing. it was a good book but didn't have much in explaining why things work. i bought php4 bible by tim converse and joyce park. i would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Personally I recommend Php 4 Bible (Tim Converse and Joyce Park) and for a real quick start, Php Fast & Easy Web Development (Julie C. Meloni).

These books rock.
