SSI doesn't work when uploaded. :(

Ok here's the weird part. When using dreamweaver (oh shutup you code monkeys)🙂 when I preview the site by hitting the shortcut key to bring up IE it shows the Server Side Include where I put it and looks just fine. When I look at the same file by just double clicking on the html file it doesn't show it. Ok, so somebody said this would happen and that I needed to upload it to my server to check it. Well now it doesn't show it. The site is being hosted by some crappy company. Does Server Side Include need the host server to support it, or is it just suppost to work? Also when I was learning about SSI, it said something about renaming the html files that have SSI in them to an shtml extension. Any help please.

Your question has nothing to do with PHP, which is what this site is all about.

Nevertheless, here's the answer: The "server side" in "server side includes" means exactly that. It's the server's job to perform the merging of files into a complete page. If your Web host goes not support server-side includes, or if you do not have the files named appropriately so that they are parsed (typically .shtml), it won't work.

PHP, by the way, is a server-side scripting language that can do everything server-side includes can do, plus a whole lot more.

oh I'm sorry I thought this was the ssibuilder.com website 😛 If you were keeping track of anything you would know that I had already talked about php and learning php is going to take a whole lot longer than adding 1 line of code to my page.

No prob though. Just trying to get some help from peeps. phpbuilder.com has limited its self if it has forums only for people with php questions as I have seen there are some very informative people here.
