mail form

hello-
i have a form that send me an email when someone fills it out.
whats the best way to specify what the 'From:' field will say.
I tried a couple ways, but i cant get it to work right. (I'm new to php!)

mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers);

It's in the $headers where you define From:

$headers = "From: $email\n";

Where $email is the person's email off of the form. You can add additional headers by seperating them with the newline character \n.

To make it real nice, assuming you have a $name and $email of the person filling out the form, you could do this, too:

$headers = "From: $name<$email>\n";

Then the from in your mail program will show the name, instead of just the email.

Hi,
Whatever John said is fine but I think you should use..

$header= "from: $name<$email>\n";

use in smallcase "from:" insted of "From:", as I checked it so many times and faced the same problem like you..

Hmm...that's odd. I've always used uppercase in From: and Reply-To: and never had any problems. Are you saying it wouldn't work that way? Would it not send at all, or just come out different when the mail was sent? What program did you use to read mail?

Yes John I am agree with you, But somehow, I have tried to send it through my web server (Linux Apache) it was not sending the from status ...🙁 🙁 I dont no why, And I didn't try to find it out because of my lasiness 🙂 🙂........

Here is an example that might help you:

mail("[e-mail]", "Your Registration", "<p><b>Thank you for registering.</b></p>",
"From: MortgageGuardian.com<[e-mail]>\r\nContent-type: text/html" );

The last part in " " is the header portion. Here you can set your from address as I did above.

The ending: \r\nContent-type: text/html allows me to use HTML tags in my email body (the third set of " ") and if the email reader of the receipent is HTML compliant, the tags will work. That way I can make text bold, certain colors, even include entire tables.
