Zipping up a directory????

is there anyway to do this using php??? I cannot find any information about it so i thought i would come here :-)

I was thinking if php doesnt have any commands for it maybe i can use the system or exec and use a linux command.

I want to zip the contents of a directory (with sub directories) and back it up in another folder as a zip.

I think the mysqladmin php script does something similar.
