did you get any straight answers?

To send attachments you have to the following:

1. Upload the file
2. Move it to a safe place before the script runs out.
3. Find the right encoding for the file
4. Encode the file
5. Create a unique boundary for the attachment
6. Make the right header for the mail
7. Add the message as an attachment
8. Send the whole thing as the message, by the mail function.
