regular expressions

i need write a regular expresion that find the matches of one word but not preceded by a number and not suceded by a number.

For example: if the word is "house", i want that no find "1casa" or "casa1" or "3casa5"

my solution is:
[^{0-9]".$palabra."[0-9]}

works well except when the word is in the begin or in the end of the line

im not sure i follow your post... try this tho:

"[^{0-9]".$palabra."[0-9]"}

the only difference is the *'s. you would read it as "match all where zero or more numbers are followed by $palabra which is followed by zero or more numbers"

you can replace the *'s with +'s which mean 1 or more, or you can use {}'s as in {2,4} which would mean match 2 to 4 numbers.
