Gardening in the job market?

Hi There,

Firstly, this is nt meant to start a thread on the job market, simply there is no where else to ask this kind of question:

I have just been put on "garden leave" by my current employer. Anyone got any ideas of the best place to look for work (for a UK based Company) withut registering with agencies? Don't mind travel etc.... won't work in London!

all I can suggest is jobserve.com but then you'll probably end up dealing with agencies.

I'm interested to know how someone with your plentiful skills (read your profile) can be on garden leave....(is the market already on the downwards slide in the UK?)

That's a very good question. Infact, I don't believe the market is on that much of a downslide, it's just that instead of hitting the proposed profit last year, the company now finds itself having to rationalise it's business across the board; inevitably as a part of strategy and R&D I was always going to be a luxury, which the Company can not currently afford, hence "Gardening Leave"

Thanks for the JobServe suggestion, but I have alreay written some script to automate the JobServe process (on the server side) - parsing it as an XML file (which I create on the fly) and using XSLT for display and sub-searches etc..... As you quite rightly say, these are primarily agencies - and I want to stay away from them (bad experiences etc...), hence the request.

Just curious, Mark. Why do you say "won't work in London?" Is it just the cost of living there?

Cost of living there is not a problem, just the hastle and the fact I don't like the place! I've worked all over the world in all sorts of cirties (eg Madrid, Sao Paulo etc...) and loved every one of them, but I don't like London.
