Virtual Host Configuration

I am curious as to what others are doing to address individualized configurations for virtual hosts.

I have configured the server to prepend a scirpt that determines the host name or directory the scipt is being run from and then setting constants that contain the specific constants for that host. (These constants include: IMAGE_DIRECTORY, and INCLUDE_DIRECTORY among others)

Would it be a better practive to user ini_alter and ini_restore for configuring virtual hosts?

What is the best practice for doing this?

Personally I like to let the webserver take care of this. If you are using Apache look at the AliasMatch directive.
