How to save varibles in a text file?

Sorry if this Question is stupid, but I'm new to PHP.
Is there a easy way to save variables from a PHP script to a file on my ftp-server?
In the Manual I read sth about MySQL, but it sounds very difficult.
Isn't there an easyer way?

First things first;
What exactly do you want to do?
Do you want to save a variable to a textfile, like adding one line of text to the end of a file?
Or do you want to save a variable to a file so you can read taht file and retreive the variable lateron?

I just want to save em to a file so I can use em later.

Look at Serialize and unserialize, they let you change variables into a string that you can write to a file,
and later change the string back into variables.
