Hi,

I am new to PHP. I need to know what all additional software are required for PHP, and what platforms does it support ?

Any help regarding the same is most welcome.

php.net is good if you can handle a little technical stuff. i personally cam from windows design back ground and near pulled all my hair out when i first installed(my spouse actually install most everything after i screwed it up) obviously you need php(4), suggested apache. a database is useful and an editor too. i am a hand html coder so i am very dedicated to notepad actually and find it a hard habit to break but when you get a parse error (all errors are parse errors!) is line 200 you need at least an easy way to look it up.

I use PHPed to build the code. It has error checking and a very nice format. You need to ditch the notepad, PHPed also lets you create HTML files and doesn't mess with the format like FrontPage would. I would also suggest you get the book "A programmers Introduction to PHP 4.0" Gilmore.
Sounds like you need some books.

I am actually very attached ot notepad. i havew no idea why. my husband has been trying to convince me i want indenting and pretty colors but i just cant get used to it.

I DO NEED BOOKS! however, i dont live in the us or canada or even western europe it isnt so easy to get them especially in english. so for now i only have the internet, my husband recently found some copied oriely books online but nothing on php. so i am stuck

I run a apache server on RedHat 7.0 wish mySQL and PHP 4.0. I have no weird problems with the setup.

You can use the rpm's for apache mySQL and php, but I prefer tar's.(I like the control)
