form validation with php

Most people suggest that the best way to validate a form is to use php to call itself, checking that some conditions have been met.

Is there a technique for submitting something else (i.e. another program call) when the conditions have all been satisfied?

Something like this might work:
if($field1==""){
}else if($field2==""){
}else{
#all fields are valid
header("location: somepage.html?field1=$field1&field2=$field2....");
exit;
}
