A cookie SHALL expires. It has to. Imagine if everyone defines cookies that never expired. You would have a ton of cookies in you cookie-jar from websites you've only visited once. The effect would be that everyone disabled cookies to avoid being burried in them.

you cannot set an idefinite cookie however you can set any ammount of time that the cookie can exist for usin gthe setcookie() function.

If it's for a shopping cart (you might loose a lot of money with that system or get a lot of unsatisfied clients,...), for the form I can understand that... It sure is a real pain in the a-- if You have to fill in all your data all over again every time (some companies just wanna know everything every time you're requesting a support. & they refuse to take customer ID only. Crazy. & If you don't, they're not answering till you don't provide all those true a/o necessary data (alert serves to nothing).

How ever to do that more or less you should count all those seconds in 000 (depends of your cookie system, might be even 1 for a second), minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years,... With that system you might discover a Y3K ;-)

How ever, if somebody is going to clean up his cookie directory,... your idea might not work perfectly well. You're again at the begining.

Now please be so kind and explain why would you like to do something like that? It has to be a good motive for it.

I don't think that you can do that...

if you won't define time limit in setcookie() it will be deleted as soon as the browser is closed... I don't see any way to set cookies that never expire, and I don't see why would you want to do it..

I've been wondering this myself... the thing I would use it for is to log a user in... I know from personal experience it's a pain to log in again every hour or so, I've seen a lot of websites that keep you constantly logged in (unless you log out) and I'd like to do that.

Firstly, this post is almost one year old. Secondly, if you use setcookie ("user","logged") without specifying time limit, then cookie will stay active as long as browser not closed.
