php.ini location

I am running apache on windows 2000. I have edited the php.ini file which was located in c:php/php.ini. However my changes do not seem to be recognized and it seems that php is using the built in default settings. Can someone tell me just where the hell the php.ini file is supposed to live when using apache in windows...

Any help would be much appreciated

Not sure about apache, but with IIS it is in C:\windows or C:\WINNT. Also, if you are using a API version you must stop and restart the web server to force a re-read of the INI file. (In the API versions, PHP is loaded once and stays memory resident, that is why it is so much faster than CGI.)
