hey, does anyone know if the .htaccess files are directory re-cursive?
eg, if i put it in say /var/www/phpprogram will it be recursive through /var/www/phpprogram/include etc?

yes it is recursive. heres what apache does: it will look for htaccess in /var/www/phpprogram/include since it wont find one, it will check the next directory up for one, and so on untill it finds one.
