I am a current phpwebhosting.com client and my domain is hosted on their servers. www.tripleauction.com
Unfortunatly they just had a complete hard drive crash and I lost all my data because they hired a backup company that did not backup the backup.
I would recommend this company but they do not have phone support. At first this seemed shady but that is why their prices are so low. They have been really fair on helping me get the infomation back that I lost but I am a little pissed off at the fact that the company they hired to do a backup failed to make a backup of my server. Here is a copy of the email support. Thanks
James
In January 2001, we made a new commitment of having only 125 users per
server (most hosting companies have anywhere from 400-800 users per server).
As the hard disk failure had already caused at least some degree of downtime
for all users of the twain server, we felt this was the best time to
completely move all our users from that server to two new servers. Half of
twain has been moved to cobble.phpwebhosting.com and the other half to
gravel.phpwebhosting.com. Both of these servers are brand-new and have
processors at least twice as fast as the twain server and nearly three times
the hard disk space. While we would have preferred to make this change under
less stressful circumstances we feel that you will be quite pleased with the
increased performance of the new server.
Regarding the hard disk failure we are happy to report that approximately 70%
of our users had only a few hours of downtime and 100% data recovery. In some
cases you may not have ever been aware that there was a problem at all. Even
if this is the case, please continue reading this message as there are some
important configuration details that all users will need to at least verify
and in most cases reconfigure.
The bad news is that at least part of the backup could not be restored
properly. We contract out the backup of our servers to an third party who
operates an on-site SCSI disk array to backup our servers (much more reliable
than tape backup). We are still trying to get a straight answer from our
backup provider as to why their service failed (any proper backup plan
should have AT LEAST one "backup of the backup" for situations exactly like
this where the primary backup had failures). At this point, to be frank, we
are holding out little hope that data not restored by now will ever by
restored. This is of course a very upsetting event for both you and
phpwebhosting.com alike.
