script no longer stores session vars

Recently changed servers, and on the new server, my scripts using sessions refuse to save/register the data and/or the script which worked on the old server is unable to reload the variables on other session pages.

The old server had php 4.01 while the new one has the latest version.

Track vars and and register_globals are enabled.

Is there any differences between the PHP versions that may cause my problem? Session IDs are stored as cookies and in the url.

Session.save_path is set to /tmp, and I checked /tmp and session files are created there.. problem is that the are 0 in size, thus confirming the fact that the sessions do not save the data.. Save_handler is set to files.. php.ini is pretty much the default dist, so I can't see why it doesnt work.

Tried the php.net session test script (count visits) to double check, and it didnt work either.
