Java resources...

As I've been reading through a lot of postings I see that quite a few people on this forum had some kind of experiene with Java.

My question is this: what books would you suggest (I am intermidiate to advanced in PHP, intermediate in C, but as far as Java goes - I know nothing about it). What are some good resources out there that could get me started.

I bought Java 2 from SAMS (SAMS = APOGEO Tutto e oltre in Italy cca. 2 years ago,.. It sure is a nice book. For new a/o begginers & advanced users. It's about 1000 pages cca.). You might like it. It's explaining everything.
Thou I prefer perl & php.

I don't know about books, but I had about 5 minutes of interest in Java before I degraded into chanting "Tell me that's not it...wake me from this C inspired nightmare"...but before that, I saw a very nice selection of links off of the site at the top of this message.
