HELP!! Chinese Encoding Problem

Can anyone help me or have any idea they can contribute?

I have a simple publishing system written in PHP4 + MySQL to drive a simplified chinese website.

I notice that certain character gets displayed wrongly but certain ones are fine. I have check the data in the MYSQL and it's correct so i can only conclude that it has something to do with the DOMXML i used to read the xml data from the DB

can anyone help provide some insight? does DOMXML have a limitation or special reserved character which will screwup chinese doublebyte chars?

The Chinese encodings require a double-byte character scheme and will break (become garbled) on many machines when the characters wrap to the next line.

It does help to properly set the encoding/character set of the page, as some browsers/chinese sofware will pay extra attention to the characters to fix things.
It also helps in a more broad way to reformat the chinese so as not to exceed or near the width of the screen. 40 chinese characters per line (or less) should help, and many chinese software packages already allow users to quickly do this kind of formatting (i.e. NJStar Communicator).
