Hi,

I'm trying to select several files in a form. I created a script to upload the files on my server and it works well. But when I browse my local HD, I can select only ONE file (CTRL or SHIFT when selecting doesn't work).

Is there a parameter to add to the "input type file" line to enable a "multiselection" with the browse button ?

I don't think this is possible, because most free web hosts I used to use had about 12 inputs per page, so you could upload up to 12 files at once. Then they started writing java applets to allow multiple files, so I guess it's just not possible with one field.

I owe my own server, so I don't think the problem is linked to the web host. Anyway, the file "multiselection" I'd like to do is made on a local hard-disk, I guess the problem is Windows ! But with Office (Word for example), I can select several files to open. So why couldn't I select several files to upload in a form ?

I really don't understand the problem... Maybe there is a simple attribute to add to my "input" line ??

It has nothing to do with the web host, I was just using it as an example, because free web hosts use forms to upload files (the ones that are too stingy to let ya have ftp!)...

Word allows you to open multiple files, yes, but these don't. To upload multiple files, you'd have to have it log the filename etc. for each file, and the file contents, so they just don't do it.

The best way is to put multiple boxes, or find a java applet (I'm sure there's gotta be one available somewhere, but I don't like Java so I never looked!).

when i click the browse button i get the the file box to select a file

but i just want that only html files should be shown and not others

is there any kind of filter like thing in html

i mean something like
<input type=file filter ='html'>

There`s no way, cause of the http restrictions. The webserver creates variables for the uploaded file from the name of the input-tag.

<input name="userfile"...

These are f.e.:
$userfile (name of the file in temporary folder)
$userfile_name (original file name)
$userfile_size (original file size)

How should it work with mulitible files that have the same name ?

But I have a question, too.
Does someone know, how to get a status for an uploading file? There must be a solution for it without an applet. Have a look at www.freedrive.com
They have an file upload status window with javascript, I think!?

I don't think anything like's that been implemented, as helpful as it would be, but I may be wrong.

I haven't ever uploaded anything to freedrive, but I have downloaded, and the status window there I'm sure is a java applet, not javascript.

I saved the most of the Freedrive-Upload pages. But I didnt find a link to an applet or something like that. Now I trying to understand the code, but its very hard to read.

Really? I thought it was an applett, if it's JS I'll have to take a look, cos it's quite good!

I too have been looking for the answer to the "upload status" dilema. Someone who can write JavaScript very well could probably do it, but short of that, here is a free Java applet that I just found. I haven't played with it yet, but thought it may be useful to someone out there:
