Limitation of GET method

Can anyone tell me the limitations of the GET method (ie maximum no. of characters) in old and new browsers?

typically 250 or so characters is the max you can reliably send. there isn't an rfc that list an exact number, but some browsers can have buffer overflow issues with too much data.

Server typically handle a max of about 2k of GET data.
But like Brandon said, 256 is the reliable limit. Anything over the might work (and usually will) but neither the browser nor the server have to handle GET's longer than 256. (if it does: yae be happy. If it doesn't... well they don't have to anyway)
